Lance Cowan

Lance Cowan left his childhood home in Kentucky in 1984 to pursue a career in songwriting in nearby Nashville. On his first trip to The Bluebird Cafe—where he now appears regularly—he met the great John Prine, who encouraged him to get out and play his songs. Soon, Lance began appearing at various clubs in Nashville and co-writing with the likes of Janis Ian (“Seventeen”) and David Mallett (“The Garden Song”). He also began working with renowned producers Allen Reynolds and Jim Rooney before landing a writer’s spot with Forrest Hills Music (owned by Jerry Bradley).

Lance Cowan’s songs have been recorded by such artists as Janis Ian, David Mallett, The Ellis Brothers and Joan Baez.
