Monday Open Mic Seating Changing to Reservations

Tuesday, August 1, 2017

Greetings Bluebird friends,

As you may have noticed on social media, we have been having trouble with our first-come, first-served seating for Monday’s Open Mic shows. We are happy that so many people are interested in our tiny club but it has put a great deal of stress on our processes and operations as you might imagine. With only 90 seats, our little room was not built for the large number of people wanting to attend a show.

Our Open Mic show was designed to provide an opportunity for up and coming songwriters to try out their songs and their performance skills here at The Bluebird. We sign up 25 writers who may each bring a guest and occasionally they will have an accompanist, so on any given Monday, we may have as many as 56-58 people involved in the performance, before we begin seating the audience. That leaves a very limited number of seats for walk ups - and we have had more people in line than we can accommodate. Despite the fact that we have asked that people not to line up until 4:30PM, many people come earlier and linger on the edge of the property often putting themselves in harm’s way alongside Hillsboro Pike, and obstructing our neighbor’s businesses. This way of operating has become too much to handle for both our staff and our customers and has created enormous frustration for everyone involved.

For that reason, we will be starting to take reservations for Monday’s Open Mic shows beginning on August 7, 2017. Reservations will be taken on Mondays at 12PM CST on our website. We will still have a handful of walk up seats available on our Open Mic show for listeners, as we often have cancellations or no shows, but we expect that number to be around 8-10 seats.

Our apologies to everyone who experienced the frustration of trying to attend a Monday night performance. We sincerely hope that taking reservations will make a more peaceful and pleasant experience for everyone.
