Mason Caviness

Mason Caviness hails from the dry flatlands of west Texas, but his music is anything but desolate. Drawing on experiences of pain, loss, redemption, and joy, Mason sees songwriting as therapy; a running tally of processing and reflecting, evolution and stillness.

In 2017, after releasing his debut EP just a year prior, Mason turned away from music. In his own words: "I started using music as a means to an end, rather than a way to express myself and how I saw the world. It became something that was ultimately unfulfilling because I was really wrapped up in the expectations of other people and what they wanted for me, rather than naming and owning what I wanted for myself." His break started a process that would last 5 years, one that he considers one of the most transformative times of his life. "I gave myself a chance to put the dream away, to just try and figure out how to be a healthy person, maybe for the first time ever."

He released the single "Music to My Ears" in May 2022, a song of which's inception was a note he'd written in his phone in 2018, a year into his break. "It speaks directly to the feelings I started having and, at the time, wasn't able to cope with.” He followed that with the single “Bound to Be” in July 2022, written from the perspective of an expecting parent. Mason is currently in the studio working on a full-length album, scheduled to release early-mid 2023.
