But, when her mentor, legendary hit songwriter, Harlan Howard, told her "You should be singing your own songs," she took it to heart. King's voice and musicianship lend themselves to Americana, Country, and Singer-Songwriter genres, but she writes without limits. With a pure vocal, King delivers her heart-felt songs with memorable melodies, and not a word wasted. With acoustic guitar in hand and true to her Appalachian roots, King is authentic and in it to do some good. Often compared to Brandi Carlile and Mary Chapin Carpenter, she appeals to a thoughtful audience who enjoys great music and having a good time. King has been a long-time resident of Nashville and involved in the Country music community as a songwriter, singer, musician, producer, and businessperson.
