Greg Matthews

Greg Matthews is a US Navy Veteran, and Nashville native singer/songwriter. They say that Nashville is a “10 year town” for making it in the music business, and Greg’s been here since 1964! (still hasn’t quite made it yet!) Growing up in Music City, his life has always had an accompanying soundtrack. Between his parent’s eclectic album collection (which played daily on the family console stereo), and watching his dad play guitar and singing all the time, Greg’s love for music was unavoidable. Learning to play guitar in the early 70’s, he was heavily impacted by the singer/songwriter superstars of the day. The music of John Denver, James Taylor, and Jim Croce, to name a few, sparked his fascination with songwriting, and he has been trying to explain and express himself with lyrics and melodies ever since.

As it often does, pursuing music had to take a back seat to making a living! He never completely gave up on playing though, and did have the opportunity to play guitar and lead a praise and worship team for his church. During that time he had a few original songs recorded by indie Christian artists in the early 2000’s.

It wasn’t until 2019 that Greg accidentally stumbled into the Nashville Songwriting community. He immediately began co-writing with some incredibly talented people, many of whom have become dear friends, and regularly performed in songwriter rounds all over town. After a rather severe health crisis during the pandemic, he was finally able to recover enough to continue writing and performing. In September 2021 Greg recorded and released his first song as an indie artist, a naughty fun Western swing Christmas tune called Jingling All the Way. In 2022 her released his debut 6 song EP, Born Here All My Life.

Although ongoing health issues may have slowed Greg down some, he’s still writing and has some newly recorded music soon to be released!
