Trey Ackerman is a perfect combination of traditional and innovative. Born into a musical family, Ackerman was raised in studios like WSM, Castle Recording, and Cinderella Sound, Nashville’s oldest independent studio, founded and run by famed session musician Wayne Moss. From early childhood Ackerman knew how high the bar was for artists in music city - and it shows in his incomparable guitar and writing skills. Now a well known artist on the Nashville scene, Ackerman puts his intimate knowledge of the Golden era of country music to work as he combines traditional sound with modern themes and lyrics.
Ackerman’s commitment to preserving the history of country music shows in more than just his songs; since turning his attention to a full-time career in the industry in early 2018 he has founded two popular writer’s rounds to function like the writer’s nights of old where everyone is excited to be there and the whole audience is engaged and having fun with the performers. “I wanted to create a relaxed atmosphere that felt like the old days at the Station Inn or the Bluebird Cafe, when it was just one big creative, collaborative jam session,” Ackerman explained of his vision for the evenings. Ackerman plays both talent scout and host every Monday at Donelson Pub and once per month at Soulshine Waverly, the music venue in Hurricane Mills owned and operated by Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter, Tayla Lynn.
In addition to his writer’s nights Ackerman spends a fair amount of time in the studio at the famed Cinderella Sound, writing with fellow songwriter Dee Moeller (plug in Dee’s credits) and recording with producer and studio owner, Wayne Moss (credits for Wayne). Ackerman recently had two of his original songs selected for use in the upcoming documentary, “TITLE”. His original song, “Too Soon”, co-written with Dee Moeller, was selected as a staff favorite at NSAI and made it onto “The Best Ten Songs in Nashville You’ve Never Heard” (but need to).
Ackerman keeps a busy performance schedule in Nashville and around Tennessee when he isn’t in studio. He’s performed over seventy times in town in 2019, opened for Tayla Lynn and Tre Twitty for their 4th of July concert at Loretta Lynn Ranch, and made his debut appearance at the Bluebird Cafe in November 2019.
