Multiple Grammy award winner, Carl Jackson, was born in the small town of Louisville, Mississippi on September 18, 1953. By the time he was eight years old, thanks to his father's influence and a burning desire inside, he was already well on his way to being an accomplished musician.

At age fourteen, after playing backstage at a local concert for Jim and Jesse McReynolds, he was asked to be a Virginia Boy by the bluegrass greats and soon found himself on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. He played banjo for Jim and Jesse for almost five years before joining The Sullivan Family for a short time as a guitarist. Carl then broke away and journeyed to Columbus, Ohio to form a group called "The Country Store" with close friends Jimmy Gaudreau, Bill Rawlins, and the late Keith Whitley. The band in its original form would last little more than a week, for just around the corner lay another big break for the boy from the hills of Mississippi.

Glen Campbell came into town to play the state fair and being huge fans of his, Carl and Keith went out to see the show. Afterwards they ran into Glen's banjo player, Larry McNeely, who persuaded Carl to come by the next day for a jam session. After picking for a while, Larry suddenly told Carl he had been looking for someone to take his place with Glen because he was tired of traveling and that Carl was the man. Larry took him to meet and play for Campbell and Glen hired him on the spot. For the next twelve years, Glen featured Carl everywhere he went as “the greatest banjo player in the world”. 

During his years with Glen, Carl started to concentrate on his vocal and songwriting abilities as well as his musicianship. He recorded two albums for Capitol Records, ("Carl Jackson: Banjo Player" and "Old Friends"), three for Sugar Hill, ("Banjo Man: A Tribute To Earl Scruggs", "Song Of The South", and "Banjo Hits"), and then in 1984 his signing with Columbia Records produced a couple of top forty country songs, ("She's Gone, Gone, Gone" and "Dixie Train").

It was at this time that Carl made the decision to leave Glen Campbell and strike out on his own. It has turned out to be a very wise one. Jackson's "Little Mountain Church House" was voted the 1990 International Bluegrass Music Association song of the year and a more recent version by George Hamilton IV was a 2005 Dove Award nominee for Bluegrass Song of the Year.  On February 25th, 1992, for his album with John Starling entitled "Spring Training", Carl was awarded his first Grammy. A few months later he received a Dove Award for southern gospel song of the year, "Where Shadows Never Fall", recorded by Glen Campbell. The beautiful ballad, "No Future In The Past", by male vocalist of the year Vince Gill was a huge songwriting success for Carl and was named the #1 Country Song of the Year for 1993 by Radio & Records magazine. In 1998, after hearing Carl’s demo, Garth Brooks decided to include the Jackson spiritual entitled "Fit For A King" in his "Sevens" project.  All in all, Carl has had hundreds of his songs recorded, with sales in excess of fifty million units.  A poll conducted by Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine several years ago found Carl to have written eight of the top 200 bluegrass songs of all time.

Carl has also had a hand in the production of several great artists such as Ruby Lovett, Slickerbilly, Mike Ward, Real Surreal, Carly Goodwin, Bering Strait, Jim & Jesse and Bobbie Cryner, whose first effort on Sony Records received the honor of Best Country Album of 1993 in USA Today. More recently he has worked with new artists, Shawn King, Jennifer Wayne, Bradley Walker (2007 IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year) and Alecia Nugent, as well as well-known country sweethearts, Joey + Rory.

Carl has two great writer’s CD’s along with pals, Larry Cordle & Jerry Salley, entitled “Against The Grain” and “Lonesome Cafe”. He is also the producer of the critically acclaimed tribute to the late Gram Parsons called “The Gram Parsons Notebook”, available on Shell Point Records.

One of Carl’s finest production successes is entitled “Livin’, Lovin’, Losin’ – Songs Of The Louvin Brothers” and was the 2003 Grammy winner for Country Album of the Year.   “How’s The World Treating You”, an incredible duet from the album, featuring James Taylor and Alison Krauss, also won the Grammy for vocal collaboration of the year.  The CD was released in September 2003 and contains other performances by EmmyLou Harris & Rodney Crowell, Patty Loveless & Jon Randal, Dolly Parton & Sonya Isaacs, Joe Nichols & Rhonda Vincent, Glen Campbell & Leslie Satcher, Johnny Cash & Pam Tillis, Vince Gill & Terri Clark, Ronnie Dunn & Rebecca Lynn Howard, Harley Allen & Dierks Bentley, Marty Stuart & Del McCoury, Kathy Louvin & Pamela Brown Hayes, as well as three performances by Carl himself; one with songwriting pals, Larry Cordle & Jerry Salley, one with country legend, Merle Haggard, and one with the incredible Linda Ronstadt.  Carl & Linda’s version of “The New Partner Waltz” is also included in Ronstadt’s 2014 “Duets” release.

Speaking of Merle Haggard, Carl played guitar, as well as sang and produced all the harmony vocals on Hag's release, "The Bluegrass Sessions", except on one song where  Alison Krauss joins Carl and lends her angelic voice to "Mama's Hungry Eyes".  

 Carl is featured on banjo, as well as vocals, along with Marty Stuart and Sheryl Crow, on the bluegrass gospel classic, “Life’s Railway To Heaven”, included on Brad Paisley’s “This Is Country Music” project.  In addition, he lends some high lonesome tenor to the title track, as well as “A Man Don’t Have To Die”, along with the awesome, Sonya Isaacs.  Brad, once again invited Carl to be part of his 2013 release, “Wheelhouse” , singing harmony on “The Mona Lisa”, “Runaway Train”, and “Outstanding In Our Field”.

On September 21st 2011, another stellar project produced by Jackson was released to the public and has garnered rave reviews across the country.  “Mark Twain: Words & Music” tells the life story of the great Samuel Clemens and contains magical musical performances by Emmylou Harris, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Rhonda Vincent, Bradley Walker, The Church Sisters, Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, Marty Raybon, Val Storey, Vince Gill, Joe Diffie and Ricky Skaggs, as well as narration by Garrison Keillor, along with Jimmy Buffet, as the voice of Huck Finn, and non-other than Mr. Clint Eastwood, as the legendary Mark Twain.  Carl even performs a song himself, entitled “Safe Water”, co-written with dear friend, Jerry Salley.

On December 26th, 2011 the state of Mississippi honored Carl with an official Country Music Trail Marker in his hometown of Louisville.  The beautiful marker, which highlights Jackson’s career, stands within a stone’s throw of the historic Strand Theatre.  Carl performs his annual “Home For Christmas” concert every December in the very building where he used to see movies as a kid, not to mention being born on the third floor, which housed a clinic back in 1953.

Carl's 2014 project, “Grace Notes”, is an inspired guitar instrumental portrait of dearly loved hymns.  It was recorded using a collection of rare acoustic guitars, some dating back to the mid-1800s, and includes Jackson's own voice telling the "story" behind each instrument.

In early May of 2015, Jackson’s heartfelt tribute to the historic 1927 Bristol Sessions was released.  The two CD set, called “Orthophonic Joy: The 1927 Bristol Sessions Revisited”,  tells the complete story of “the big bang of Country Music”, is narrated by legendary Grand Ole Opry announcer, Eddie Stubbs, and contains stellar performances by such artists as Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Emmylou Harris, Marty Stuart, Dolly Parton, Ashley Monroe, The Shotgun Rubies, Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers, Vince Gill, Keb’ Mo’, The Church Sisters, Corbin Hayslett, Brad Paisley, Ashley & Shannon Campbell, Larry Cordle & The Virginia Luthiers, Jesse McReynolds, and The Chuck Wagon Gang.  Carl also performs himself with a driving rendition of “Pretty Polly”, as well as trading guitar licks and vocals back and forth with the aforementioned superstar, Brad Paisley, on the classic “In The Pines”.

Glen Campbell’s final studio album, “Adios”, was produced by Jackson and holds a very special place in his heart.  Carl’s gratitude and appreciation for the man he sincerely considers “the greatest singer I’ve ever heard” shines through every note and is a testament to the love he will always hold for the “Rhinestone Cowboy”.  With truly deep emotion, Carl states; “Glen Campbell was my hero.  He gave me a job when I was eighteen years old… he featured me all over the world… he taught me countless guitar licks…singing harmony with him made me a much better singer and extended my range tremendously… he even gave me my first top ten country hit as a songwriter… and to top it all off, he honored me with Ashley, the most beautiful and wonderful goddaughter in the world.  There is no way I can ever thank Glen enough for the blessing he has been in my life.”           

On November 16, 2018, an incredible collection of songs recorded in the mid to late 60’s entitled “Glen Sings For The King” was released by Universal Records.  It includes eighteen never heard before versions of songs Campbell originally demoed for the great Elvis Presley.  Carl is honored beyond words to have created and produced a digital duet of Glen and Elvis singing the beautiful gospel song, “We Call On Him”. 

 And, on December 7, 2017, Carl married Robin Arnold.  They both are from Louisville, MS, and were married there by an ex Ole Miss quarterback, no doubt!  It was great to be home together and surprise everyone!   

Since those days in Mississippi fifty some odd years ago, two-time SPBGMA Songwriter of the Year and Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame member, Carl Jackson, has realized many of his dreams. But with each dream that becomes a reality, a new dream lies ahead.

Referred to by Billboard Magazine as "One of Music Row's greatest veteran tunesmiths," Jerry Salley has had an incredibly successful, multi award-winning songwriting career. Nominated in 2019 for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Salley is the 2018 & 2019 IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Songwriter of the Year and was named the 2003 SESAC Country Music Songwriter of the Year. Salley has had over 540 different songs recorded and his songs have sold in excess of 18 million records worldwide. Writing and singing in Nashville since 1982, he has written multiple hits in country, bluegrass, and gospel music and may well be the most successful songwriter to have earned equal recognition from all three genres of music. Jerry was a 2020 Grammy nominated producer in the Gospel Roots category for producing the multi-artist project, Gonna Sing, Gonna Shout, on Billy Blue Records. He also produced the popular Dolly Parton single, a new version of the old Gospel Hymn, “In The Sweet By And By”, released as part of the “Country Faith Bluegrass” project in 2021, which received two 2022 IBMA Awards (“Gospel Recording of the Year” and “Collaborative Recording of the Year”), and the 2022 Dove Award for “Bluegrass/Country/Roots Song of the Year”. He currently has a popular song, “It Takes A Woman”, on the new Chris Stapleton album “Higher”.

From Sir Elton John's only chart single to appear on the Billboard Country Chart ("Where We Both Say Goodbye" - duet with Australian artist Catherine Britt) to a Gospel song so popular it has been included in church hymnals ("His Strength Is Perfect"); from songs recorded by country music legends Loretta Lynn and The Oak Ridge Boys to some of today's biggest country stars like Chris Stapleton, Reba McEntire, and Brad Paisley, Jerry's long list of accomplishments speaks for itself.

Born in the small southern Ohio town of Chillicothe, he signed with Performing Rights Organization SESAC at eighteen years old. After earning a degree from Ohio University in 1982, Salley moved to Nashville and landed a job in the Country Music USA cast at Opryland theme park, a job that would become a springboard for what was to come.

Jerry’s country music successes began in the late 1980s when the group Wild Rose recorded “Breakin’ New Ground”. Since then, countless country music stars have recorded his songs, including Reba McEntire ("I'm Gonna Take That Mountain", “Close To Crazy”), John Anderson ("I Fell In The Water"), Wade Hayes ("How Do You Sleep At Night") , Chris Stapleton (“Outlaw State Of Mind” on the Grammy award winning quadruple-platinum album Traveller), Toby Keith, Sara Evans, Patty Loveless, Joe Nichols, Darryl Worley, Travis Tritt, Tracy Lawrence, Neal McCoy, Mark Chesnutt and many, many more. Internationally, he has penned no less than nine #1 Country hits in Australia.

As part of a trio with friends Larry Cordle and Carl Jackson, Jerry recorded the song "You're Running Wild" on the Louvin Brothers Tribute on Universal South Records. Entitled Livin', Lovin', Losin' - Songs of the Louvin Brothers, the album features numerous country music stars singing songs made famous by the legendary duo. The project won the 2003 Grammy for Country Album of the Year.

In the bluegrass genre, Jerry was named the 2018 and 2019 IBMA Songwriter of the Year and has had

hundreds of songs, including numerous chart-toppers, recorded. He was thrilled to have co-written three songs on The SteelDrivers Grammy award winning album, The Muscle Shoals Recordings (“A Long Way Down”, “The River Runs Red”, “6 Feet Away”), and a song on the Del McCoury Band Grammy winning album The Streets of Baltimore (“The Butler Brothers”). Other bluegrass groups who have recorded Jerry’s songs include The Osborne Brothers, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Rhonda Vincent, Lonesome River Band, Balsam Range, Seldom Scene, Flatt Lonesome, IIIrd Tyme Out, Larry Stevenson, Donna Ulisse, Irene Kelley and many others. Salley is a multiple IBMA Song of the Year nominee, and his song “All Dressed Up”, recorded by Joe Mullin and The Radio Ramblers, won the IBMA Gospel Recorded Song Of The Year award in 2016. Jerry is a three-time IBMA Award winner, which includes receiving the 2006 IBMA Album of the Year award for his contribution (as an artist) to the Celebration Of Life album.

He is an eight-time Dove Award nominee in the country, bluegrass, and southern gospel categories and won a prestigious Dove for the 1990 Inspirational Song of the Year "His Strength Is Perfect", recorded by and co-written with Steven Curtis Chapman. “His Strength Is Perfect” has been recorded more than 200 times, and was included in the Baptist Hymnal in 2009. Prior to that, the song had been included in the Celebration Life Hymnal, arguably the largest selling non-denominational Hymnal in the world. As stated above, Salley won his second Dove Award in 2022 for producing and performing on the Dolly Parton recording of “In The Sweet By And By” for “Bluegrass/Country/Roots Song of the Year”. Salley has written eight #1 Gospel hits, multiple #2 Gospel hits and over a dozen other top ten and top twenty gospel songs. Gospel groups that have recorded Jerry’s songs include Steven Curtis Chapman, CeCe Winans, Tribute Quartet, Karen Peck & New River, The Talleys, The McKameys, Lordsong, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, and many more.

As an artist, Jerry has performed worldwide and has had the honor of performing as a soloist many times on the world-famous Grand Ole Opry. He has appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, Regis and Kathy Lee, and NBC'S Today Show, where he was honored to sing as background vocalist for the legendary Linda Ronstadt.

In 2007, Jerry released his first solo project, New Songs, Old Friends, on the Mountain Home Record Label. A Bluegrass CD of all new songs written by Jerry, the project includes guest vocalists The Oak Ridge Boys, Rhonda Vincent, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs & Sharon White, Darryl Worley, Del McCoury, Doyle Lawson, Sonya Isaacs, Alecia Nugent, Jamie Johnson, Lisa Shaffer and buddies Carl Jackson and Larry Cordle. The project was one of the final nominees for the 2007 IBMA "Recorded Event of the Year". Since then, he has released Showing My Age (2012), Gospel From My Grassroots (2015), Front Porch Philosophy (2017), All God’s Children Sing (2019), Bridges And Backroads (2020), and A Very Jerry Family Christmas (2021).

Although Salley focuses on songwriting, as noted above he is a 2020 Grammy nominated producer in the Gospel Roots category, having produced the award winning, multi-artist Bluegrass Gospel project “Gonna Sing, Gonna Shout” on Billy Blue Records. He is in high demand as a producer for classic country, bluegrass, Americana, and gospel artists. He also loves sharing his music with his fans, performing approximately 80 shows a year throughout the country.
